Church of the Hill Country

Sunday Service @10am         960 Barnett St., Kerrville Texas

Community Outreach / Social Justice

UUCHC is a small but mighty congregation of community activists: almost all of our 50 members and friends are members of or actively involved in 37 different organizations and non- profits here…Hill Country Crisis Council, Families & Literacy, Raphael Free Clinic, Friends of the Library, League of Women Voters, Humane Society and Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelters.
We are precinct chairs, voter registrars, poll workers. We prepare backpacks for refugees and help them through the airport/bus station. We sing in the Chorale; create art for the Kerrville Art & Culture Center.

UUCHC members Mike and Karen Burkett are the founders of Kerr Konnect, Kerrville’s first successful all-volunteer transportation service. Fifteen UUs now either drive or are on the office staff for Kerr Konnect!

UUCHC teams always participate in the Upper Guadalupe River Authority’s annual River Clean-up. We help organize and participate in local rallies supporting women’s/reproductive rights, civil/LGBTQ rights, voting rights and against censorship.

Nationally and statewide, we are members of the UUA’s Standing on the Side of Love movement and the TXUUJM’s social justice activities.

As a former Kerrville mayor once said, “You UUs are EVERYWHERE there’s work for good to be done!”

Our Hill Country Community

Hill Country Crisis Council (Women’s Shelter) – Clothing collections and monetary donation.
Kerr Konnect – Kerr Konnect is a non-profit organization that provides low cost rides to those Kerr County residents most in need. Not only do congregation members volunteer in the Kerr Konnect office and as drivers, but 5th Sunday donations are sometimes directed towards supporting this worthwhile organization.

Little Free Library: UUCHC has joined the free library movement and welcome all to take a book, read it, and return it, and donate any books that you can!  Reading is fundamental! Located on the front lawn of the sanctuary at 960 Barnett Street.
Texas Impact – Texas Impact is a statewide religious grassroots network whose members include individuals, congregations, and governing bodies of the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths. Texas Impact exists to advance state public policies that are consistent with universally held social principles of the Abrahamic traditions.
Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry (TXUUJM) – A state wide justice ministry raising the voice of UU values in a public arena.
